Membership and
the Round Table

Membership of HUG is free and open to anyone with, or who has experienced, a mental health problem.

People in agreement with our aims and carers of people with mental health problems are welcome to our meetings.

People who work with people with mental health problems, but are not themselves users, are welcome but are usually requested to make a prior appointment with the user group to attend a meeting.

HUG is run by its members and facilitated by two workers from Highland Community Care Forum, who have both experienced mental illness.

Please note that HUG does not represent the views of people with dementia, as we believe that other specialist organisations are in a better position to do this.

The Round Table

Every branch of HUG has the opportunity to have two representatives elected to the HUG Round Table, which is HUG's steering committee where decisions on policy and the future direction of the group rest.

Two members can be elected or nominated once every two years from each local branch of HUG. In many cases this is a simple process as only one person wishes to be nominated in which case we would just ask the local branch to confirm the persons appointment. In cases where more than one person is interested for a post we would hold an election with a secret ballot.
